Methana

Solo Exhibition
DOXA Project Space, Budapest, Hungary
2023 February

In 2022 I spent a month in Methana, Greece, where I designed a ritual for myself, which let me go into a meditative craft-making process. I was doing embroidery blindfolded for a week, so instead of my regulative organ, my eyes, touch, hearing, and other senses could take over. Often I lost the thread and got nervous, but this gave me insight into how pressured I was to perform.

Painting, embroidery, and meditation are my tools for deliberately and non-judgmentally orienting my focus on the experiences of the present moment and gaining awareness of internal and external momentary sensations. I hope that with this work I can stimulate dialog in the big issues of attention economy, mindfulness, and post-work, affecting all of us.

During the exhibition, I gave three workshops on embroidery in a group setting. We collectively generated a space for ritual, allowing feelings and emotions to manifest in a blindfolded space. Through repetitive movement, the participants explored craft-making as a healing practice. We shared conversation, deep listening, time, and skills.
